It is hard to believe, but back to school is right around the corner! Before you send your kids back to their classrooms, it is important to organize your home to ensure that your home, your kids, and yourself are ready for the hectic days ahead. It is best to prepare your home now before your days fill up with activities and school-related tasks.

Here are some ways to get your home organized for back to school:

• Organize your entranceway to your home

  The entranceway/doorway to your home is where your children (and yourself) normally drop off all of their things when they enter the home. The issue with the drop-and-go is that the next morning you are bound to be missing your keys or that important school trip permission slip in the pile of things by the door. To avoid this situation, try organizing your entranceway with a bulletin board for important papers, hooks for coats and backpacks, and a basket for shoes and umbrellas.

• Organize your children's bedrooms

  Before the first day of school arrives, be sure to take the time to organize your children's bedrooms (with their help, of course!) to make sure it is tidy and ready for the new school year. A clean room and desk area will give them a place to do their homework, study, and wind down from a busy day without feeling overwhelmed by a messy room. Entice them to keep their room clean throughout the week, so they have more time to do what they want on the weekends instead of spending hours tidying their rooms.

• Keep your calendar updated and easily accessible

  Once school starts, your days are bound to fill up with school-related activities, extracurriculars, and various appointments for yourself and your kids. Purchase a big wall calendar and update it with any events and important dates you don't want to forget. This will give your kids an idea of what is coming up and how their schedule looks during the month. A large family calendar will also keep you organized and ensure you are budgeting your time correctly.

• Clean up closets and take stock of wardrobe

  The beginning of the school year is a perfect time to clean up your closets and go through your children's clothes to determine what still fits and should be donated. Make a list of what clothes you need to buy before the school year starts.
